The most vital component of a life spent pursuing Jesus Christ is reading the Word of God. In it, God expresses Himself and communicates His will to us. Every believer should read in their Bible daily. We suggest you read in the Book of Psalms and Proverbs and pray those scriptures over yourself and speak them into your life every day.
Start in Psalm one – when you read “Blessed is the man that walks not in the counsel of the ungodly…”, make it personal to you and speak it out as you read: “I am blessed because I do not follow ungodly counsel.”
When you read through Psalm twenty-three, don’t just recite it in the old King James because you heard some “pious” person say it. Find a translation that is written in a way that works with your brain and then speak it out into your life.
As you read Psalm ninety-one, take a second to realize that there are two people talking: the Psalmist and the LORD. The Psalmist says, “[The LORD] shall cover thee with His feathers…” and later on the LORD responds with “He will call upon me and I will answer him.” So, you can make that personal to you by saying out loud, “No evil will befall me, nor will any plague come near my dwelling.” Then, as you get to the end where God speaks, say “Because I have set my love upon You, therefore will You deliver me.”
You can remind yourself of God’s goodness in your life as you read the hundred-third Psalm. Put your nose in the book and say, “As far as the east if from the west – that’s how far God has removed my sins from me.”
The entirety of Psalm one-twenty-one is for your benefit. When it’s obvious that “My help comes from the LORD…” is easily applicable to your day, make “He will not suffer thy foot to be moved…” personal. Declare that “God keeps me, and He will not sleep on me.”
Other Psalms and passages of scripture are going to be easily applied to your life as you read them. Psalm one-thirty-nine reads “Search me, O God…and lead me in the way everlasting” right out of the King James. This can quickly be added into your prayers.
If you believe in Christ, you can apply the Word of God to your life every single day. Open the Bible and find what it says about you and your life, then choose God’s words over everything else.
